In the long stretch of time between the joy of childhood and the release of retirement, many people seem to lose that sense of adventure that excited us in our youth. We face the many challenges of adulthood with an overly serious demeanor that little by little, bit by bit, has caused youthful attitudes to slip away, replaced by a very cautious, almost hesitant approach to life. Some of that cautious attitude is necessary for us to get through everyday existence, but we should not give up our innate sense of adventure. Getting older should not be permitted to stop us from taking the time to enjoy ourselves. We need to grab hold of the wilder side of life and step out of our everyday routines to tackle new exploits. We must march forth, challenging ourselves to take on something new, something different, and most of all, something fun.
In fact, as we age, marching forth is something we should be doing all the time. Friday, March 4, 2011, is a great day for each of us to begin to step out and do something new. After all, it’s Exalano Day!
Exalano Day was created many years ago as a unique holiday where we are all called upon to march forth from our daily routine and do something new and different. The annual call to celebrate Exalano Day has been issued in each of the last thirty-five years by the Exalano Day Committee (the EDC), a very, very small group of people on a mission to remind everyone that the world is a wonderful place to explore and that we all should march forth to enjoy it. The word 'Exalano' comes from the Greek word meaning 'to march forth', and hence it is a natural idea to declare that the fourth day of March should be called Exalano Day. On this most unique holiday, the Exalano Day Committee declares that everyone, old and young, should march forth and do something you want to do, something new, something exciting.
On Friday, March 4, 2011, all of us should begin to act our age by marching forth and celebrating Exalano Day.
